Keepers Mead
Organic Mead Brand Identity System
Organic mead. Bringing mead to a contemporary audience of disruptors. Bottled for the bold.
Brief
Develop a brand identity system for an organic mead targeting a contemporary audience of disruptors.
Solution
Mead needed a rebrand from Renaissance relic to cultural statement. Keepers answers with a raw, rebellious identity rooted in New England craft — blackletter logo, three distinct packaging variants, and a brand voice as uncompromising as its audience. Designed with the visual thesis of “Blood, Sweat & Honey.”
The Design Challenge
Mead is the world's oldest buzz — humanity's first adult beverage, older than wine, older than beer. But it's been buried under centuries of Renaissance fair kitsch and craft beverage sameness, leaving a wide-open lane for a brand willing to take it seriously.
Keepers Mead set out to reclaim that territory. Powered by organic, raw honey sourced from New England beekeepers, the brand dares to bring people back to their roots while bringing something genuinely new to the shelf. The opportunity wasn't just to make mead look good — it was to make it feel like a cultural statement.
The design challenge was finding a visual language that could hold two things at once: the weight of something ancient and the edge of something alive. The result pulls from blackletter craft, metal and skate iconography, botanical illustration, and the grit of the New England landscape — filtered through a color system that lets each variant carry its own personality while reading unmistakably as Keepers.
